The Agony of Love

The Su family goes bankrupt, her father dies of illness, and her younger brother Su Chen urgently needs surgery for a serious condition. Just when Su Wan is at her wits’ end, she meets Fu Shiyan. On the condition that he will “take care of Su Chen,” he forces her to sign a three-year “mistress contract,” declaring, “Your father owed me. You’ll repay the debt.”

Fu Shiyan keeps Su Wan locked in his villa, telling people she is “a substitute who looks like someone from his past.” That woman was the girl who once saved him, though he mistakenly believes she was another heiress, Lin Weiwei. He treats Su Wan with cold disdain, often getting close to Lin Weiwei right in front of her and wounding her deeply.

Su Wan silently endures it. While caring for her brother, she secretly helps Fu Shiyan handle problems at work. She was once a top student in finance at a prestigious university, but she never dares let him find out, afraid he will think she has “ulterior motives.”

At a banquet, Lin Weiwei frames Su Wan, dousing her with wine and humiliating her in front of everyone. Fu Shiyan not only fails to defend her, but coldly tells her to “behave herself and stop embarrassing me.” Su Wan weeps alone late into the night, yet when Fu Shiyan gets drunk, she cannot help tending to his wounds. He has a vague sense that she feels familiar, but pushes aside his doubts.
