1. Lin Moyuan: Assistant county magistrate of Qingzhou, forty years old. Honest and incorruptible, but constrained by local gentry. He has ambitions but no way to realize them. After discovering Su Jinyao’s abilities, he gives her his full support and becomes her “backing at court.” Later promoted to the provincial government, he remains committed to putting the people’s welfare first.

2. Zhao Hu: Leader of the displaced people, formerly a discharged soldier. Brave and loyal, he is persuaded by Su Jinyao’s offer of “land allotments and workshop jobs.” He leads the displaced people in infrastructure projects, becomes captain of the guard, and oversees public safety and construction security.

3. Aunt Liu: An elderly local woman, skilled in farming and herbal medicine. She is Su Jinyao’s “guide to life in ancient times,” helping promote improved farming tools and teach crop cultivation. Later, she takes charge of the welfare workshops.
