After Employees Called the BMW I Gave Away at the Annual Party Bad Luck, I Switched the Prize to Ride-Hailing Vouchers

The intern who won the prize posted a snide message about me on her social media, saying she’d won a black BMW at the company annual party and that it was horribly unlucky. Everyone in the company chat chimed in, saying black was an unlucky color and asking who would want to drive a “hearse” to work. What the internet didn’t know was that, on top of the car’s considerable value, I’d also thrown in a vanity license plate with all eights and a hundred thousand yuan in gas cards. The whole internet piled on, calling me stingy, saying I couldn’t even give away a car without begrudging it, and wouldn’t let the young woman choose the color herself. So I decided to grant her wish. In front of the entire company, I announced: “To respect the winner’s personal taste, the BMW grand prize, including the license plate and gas cards, is hereby withdrawn. She will instead receive a 5,000-yuan ride-hailing voucher.” The moment I finished speaking, the company erupted. The intern burst into tears, while the veteran employees who hadn’t won turned red-eyed and surrounded her, demanding she pay back the million-yuan “prize.”
