After I Helped Dad Beat Mom to Death, He Sold Me

My dad is a liar. He told me that he and Mom were just playing a game called “divorce.” Once the game was over and he won, they would make up. In court, Dad flung a thick stack of photos at Mom. They showed her being intimate with a strange man. Everyone pointed at Mom and whispered. I wore Mom’s favorite princess dress, and I wasn’t angry at all. I knew this was part of the game, to help Dad win. I tugged at Grandma’s sleeve. “Grandma, let’s go home. Mom and Dad will be back together soon.” Grandma held me tight, tears falling onto my hair. “Yueyue, your dad... doesn’t want us anymore.” I stubbornly shook my head and pointed to the auntie beside Dad. “Mom didn’t betray Dad. That man is that auntie’s husband.” But nobody believed me. Later, Grandma threw away everything in the house that had belonged to Dad, including my favorite family photo. She said heartless people didn’t deserve to stay in our home. I didn’t understand. Dad was about to win, so why were we angry? I decided to help him myself. Mom had said that if we got that auntie’s phone, we could prove she and Dad had been working together all along. As long as I got the phone and destroyed the “evidence,” Dad was sure to win!
