A Glimmer in the Wild Rice

Gu Ye returned to his village to grow rice, but at first the villagers doubted him, convinced that “organic rice doesn't produce high yields.” He also ran into a dispute with a neighboring village over irrigation. When Su He arrived to teach, she not only tutored the village children, but also volunteered to help Gu Ye “explain the benefits of organic rice to the villagers.” For instance, she organized a visit to the rice paddies so the parents could see the quality of the crop for themselves. Gu Ye, in turn, helped Su He repair the dilapidated classroom and install solar lights at the school. As they worked in the rice paddies and took evening strolls, talking about their dreams, their feelings for each other gradually deepened.
