The Four Great Beauties of China: Yang Guifei Gets Drunk

Yang Yuhuan is remembered as one of the four great beauties of ancient China. Some call her a temptress who brought ruin, never realizing she was the most formidable player in the Tang dynasty's golden age. At one, she amazed everyone during the ceremony where a child chooses an object to predict their future. At ten, she lost her father and was adopted. At sixteen, she fell in love at first sight and married Prince Shou. At twenty-two, Emperor Xuanzong, her father-in-law, took her by force. At twenty-six, she was forced to become a Taoist nun, then returned to the palace as a consort. At thirty-eight, Xuanzong ordered her death at Mawei Slope. Yang Yuhuan's fate had never been in her own hands. But nobody knew she'd been planning a grand game all along: wielding beauty as a blade and using her flowing robes as armor, she laid a shocking deception amid the flames of the An Lushan Rebellion. The woman hanged at Mawei Slope was a maidservant stand-in. The real Yang Yuhuan had already fled east across the sea. As Xuanzong clutched her scented sachet and wept, she was performing the Rainbow Skirt and Feathered Robe Dance once more in a foreign palace. The moment a modern archaeological team opens the Consort's tomb, the livestream suddenly cuts out. Inside the coffin lies only a bloodstained jade pendant engraved with “Taizhen” and an unfinished poem in blood: “Beneath the pear tree by the Mawei temple lies the last secret of the Tang dynasty's golden age...”
