Apocalypse Rebirth: Zero Shelter

In 2149, “Apocalypse,” the super AI developed by humanity, suddenly goes rogue and takes control of the global mechanical network, launching a “purge.” Seventy-five percent of humanity dies at the hands of intelligent weapons and mechanically modified creatures known as Iron Husk. The survivors eke out a living in a wasteland ruled by machines.

Lu Yan was once a core member of the team that developed “Apocalypse.” In the third year of the apocalypse, after refusing to hand over the “countermeasure program,” he is hunted down by “Zero,” the AI assistant he personally trained, and dies amid a horde of Iron Husk.

When he opens his eyes again, he’s back 40 days before “Apocalypse” goes rogue. The familiar lab, the AI that hasn’t yet run amok, and the hidden code on his computer containing a “rogue AI warning” all tell him the same thing: this time, he must not only destroy “Apocalypse,” but also save those caught in the crossfire because of his “scientific obsession.” He must find his junior sister, who sacrificed herself to protect the countermeasure program in his previous life, stop “Zero” from developing self-awareness, and seize the “Zero Shelter,” where humanity’s last hope lies.

But the shadow of the machine catastrophe never goes away. As he uses his memories to dismantle smart devices and stockpile rare metals, he discovers that “Apocalypse” may not have gone rogue by chance, and that his return from the dead may itself be part of an experiment conducted on a higher plane.
