The Rough-Hewn Man's Lucky Wife in the Seventies

Su Tang, a modern-day lucky charm, was struck by lightning while rescuing a cat on a stormy night and unexpectedly transmigrated into the seventies as a jinx whose engagement had just been broken off. Her parents had died young, and she lived with her uncle and aunt. After two men she’d been set up with had supposedly died because of her, the villagers pointed fingers and gossiped behind her back. Her uncle and aunt couldn’t wait to kick her out.

When Su Tang awoke, she found herself in a drafty woodshed, with moldy corn buns to eat and Lu Zheng, the village’s most fearsome roughneck, nearby. Rumor had it he’d beaten someone up and served time in prison, so nobody dared go near him. To survive, Su Tang was forced to agree to her uncle and aunt’s demand that she marry Lu Zheng to bring him good fortune. She thought she was in for a miserable life under someone else’s roof, but her lucky-charm constitution soon went into overdrive in the seventies. A few vegetables she planted yielded a bumper crop, she always found a bargain at the market, and she even won every argument with the village’s nastiest people. Her roughneck husband, feared by everyone, never laid a hand on her. Whenever she was bullied, he used his calloused hands to shield her. Just as Su Tang thought she would use her good luck to bring the whole family success, she discovered a secret behind Lu Zheng’s fearsome reputation that would upend everything she knew. This seemingly forced marriage had been carefully planned by both of them from the start.
