Xin Ning: A Journey of Love and Medicine in Beihan

Xin Ning was a key member of the traditional medicine department at a leading modern hospital. Her acupuncture and therapeutic massage skills were astonishing, but while treating a patient in an emergency, a malfunctioning device jolted her into a blinding flash of light. When she opened her eyes again, she found herself in the war-torn era of Northern Han.

She had become an orphan in a border-town village, having lost both parents to an epidemic. A dilapidated hut, scarce medicinal herbs, and the constant threat of war left her struggling to survive, so far removed from the modern medical care she was used to. To stay alive, Xin Ning put her medical skills to use once more. With a few silver needles, she saved a child burning with fever; with herbal remedies, she eased the epidemic spreading through the town. Before long, she had earned a reputation as a living bodhisattva.

While making a house call, she unexpectedly rescued Zhao Heng, the seventh prince of Northern Han, who had been ambushed by assassins and left seriously wounded. Zhao Heng was suspicious and cold, yet he was drawn to Xin Ning’s unorthodox medical skills and calm, resilient nature. In turn, as Xin Ning came to know him, she saw the care for the people beneath his steely exterior, and understood how powerless he was amid the struggle for imperial power.

The border was under threat, the epidemic returned, and political conspiracies closed in at every turn. Xin Ning wielded traditional medicine as a weapon, saving lives in a world torn by chaos and becoming Zhao Heng’s strongest support. From mutual suspicion to trust, the two composed a moving love story in the turbulent world of Northern Han, a romance spanning time and space, bound together by the art of healing. Yet they would also have to face the trials of their era, imperial power, and fate.
