Synopsis

An epic work that reimagines the wellspring of Chinese civilization

The Origin is a sweeping narrative rooted in ancient legends and imbued with the wisdom of the “Three Ancient Tombs.” The book strictly follows the cosmology of the Weft of Changes and is divided into five volumes: Great Change, Primordial Beginning, Primordial Formation, Primordial Substance, and Supreme Ultimate. Its 365 chapters correspond to the number of days in a year, building a coherent universe of civilizational development.

The novel centers on the forebears of the Chinese people, including the Yellow Emperor, the Yan Emperor, Qibo, Cangjie, and Leizu. Through their tribal alliances, struggles for survival, and pursuit of knowledge, it sets aside gods, demons, and fantasy in favor of history and early scientific reasoning, carefully reconstructing the grand journey through which the ancestors came to understand the world and create civilization.

At its heart is a systematic account of how the Book of Changes, the Yellow Emperor’s Inner Canon, and the Shennong’s Classic of Materia Medica came into being:

· The principles of change began with observations of the stars and insights into the mathematics of the Yellow River Chart and the Luo River Writing.

· Medical theory grew from long-term observation and practical experience with illness and injury.

· The study of medicinal herbs arose from firsthand trials of the properties of countless plants and the systematic classification of what was learned.

Each chapter uses 7,000 words to explore its characters and events in depth. At the end of each chapter, a special analysis distills the related principles of change, medicine, and pharmacology, along with historical evidence. Through the sweeping epic, readers can clearly grasp how the system of Chinese wisdom took shape and what lies at its heart.

The Origin is both a heartfelt inquiry into the origins of civilization and a rational reconstruction of them. It invites readers to appreciate the great wisdom of the sages who, amid humanity’s early ignorance, forged the path of harmony between Heaven and humanity.
