The Hundred Demons: Strange Tales of Chang'an

During the Kaiyuan era of the Tang Dynasty, monsters stirred beneath the prosperity of the golden age.

On a rainy night in Chang’an’s Ghost Market, an intact human skin appeared, its flesh and bones nowhere to be found. Pei Zhiqiu, a female official of the Court of Judicial Review who did not believe in ghosts or gods, was ordered to investigate. But she encountered Li Xuan, a mysterious Daoist carrying a wondrous treasure, who insisted that no human could have done it.

One was a court official who believed in laws and evidence; the other, a half-demon monster hunter who walked the boundary between yin and yang. Though they should have been sworn enemies, a string of bizarre cases forced them to work together. One relied on Daoist magic and demonic arts, the other on logical deduction. As they solved the cases, they drew closer to a shocking plot to overthrow the dynasty. The mysterious organization known as Painted Skin was gathering the evil thoughts of humankind in an attempt to unleash the ancient Demon Ancestor.

Meanwhile, the secret behind the half-demon blood stirring within Li Xuan and his magical treasure, the Hundred Demons Scroll, as well as the truth behind the wrongful case that had implicated Pei Zhiqiu’s father, gradually came to light...

Prosperous Chang’an, where humans and demons coexist; strange cases abound, and fated rivals are destined to clash.

When reason meets the supernatural and the law confronts demonic hearts, can they protect the human world from the whirlpool of conspiracy?
