Chronicles of the Cloaked Shadow, Weaving Light to Guard the Realm

Jiang Suoyun, a prodigy in materials science, discovers an extraordinary secret hidden in the unique nanoscale fiber structure of an old rain cape left behind by his grandfather. Drawing on modern materials science, he recreates and upgrades the cape’s “hide-from-the-world” coating in the lab, a material that absorbs electromagnetic waves across the entire spectrum and mimics the optical properties of its surroundings. With the breakthrough of a radar-proof rain cape, the power of stealth technology begins to emerge, but it also raises fears of surveillance and abuse. Together with his senior fellow student Lu Zhaoheng and his advisor Tang Guanfu, Jiang establishes the Stealth Technology Ethics Committee. Guided by the rigor and sense of responsibility of materials scientists, they navigate clashes in the lab, classroom, and conference room to bring about the Convention on the Use of Stealth Technology. Through science and ingenuity, they strive to safeguard the boundaries and original purpose of “stealth” in a modern world where light and shadow intertwine.
