I Beheld the Gods Through the Mist

(Don’t click, don’t click. The story was abandoned.) [Urban supernatural powers + the uncanny + Chinese-style horror + gods + horror + dark fantasy + survival + a touch of brain-teasing] [Don’t click. The story was discontinued and abandoned before its ending.] The fog has come. The city is swallowed, and reality has become a game governed by the rules of the gods. On his eighteenth birthday, Jiang Lin jolts awake in his dormitory to find gray fog covering the entire city. Humanity awakens classes and talents, but every instance is a wager with life and death on the line. He was an ordinary college student, outwardly a foul-mouthed, unhinged cynic, but inwardly cool-headed to the extreme. During the awakening ceremony, he sees through his professor’s lies. His power runs wild, and he is forced to flee. He runs into the campus beauty, Shen Jin, tearing a monster apart with her bare hands. She shields him and says, “Don’t stare too long with those eyes. You’ll go mad.” By chance, he gains a golden finger: [True Sight], which lets him see through every lie and look straight at the truth. Paper figures at a ghost wedding, a funeral home at midnight, an ancient tower hanging upside down... One uncanny instance after another opens. While others rely on luck to survive, he uses logic to break the game. While everyone else begs on their knees, he tears the rules apart with a cold laugh. While others are still fighting to stay alive, he has already seen through the truth about the gods. Shen Jin sheds blood for him, loses her sight for him, and walks toward death for him again and again. And with a pair of eyes, he calculates the cracks in fate and works backward through every cause and effect. From a student hunted by all to a breaker of games who commands fragments of the rules. At last, he stands at the edge of the Fog Realm, contract in hand, and looks the gods in the eye. “I refuse to follow the script you wrote.” For a hundred years, no one has seen the light beyond the gray fog. He is the only one who can end the cycle. In this life, he will lead her out of the eternal night.
