The Immortal's Trial: The Bones of Nishang

"The Longevity Calamity: The Rainbow Garment Bone" Synopsis

Yang Yuwan, an embroiderer from Shu, was branded a witch by her neighbors after stitching an ill-omened brocade depicting an emperor’s beheading. Fleeing in panic, she escaped to Chang’an. After a mix-up led to her taking another bride’s place, she became the Princess Consort of the Prince of Shou. On her wedding night, she awakened the “Lishan Jade Soul.” Those who bear it can enter the “Clouddream Realm” and speak with versions of themselves from different times and places, but each use costs them a precious memory.

After entering the imperial palace and being made a consort, she wins favor with the secret art of “weaving souls into garments.” Yet she has no idea that the Jade Soul and Xuanzong Li Longyan’s “Kaiyuan Dragon Pendant” are both ancient soul artifacts. Their meeting marks the beginning of a “symbiotic curse”: the Jade Soul needs the Dragon Pendant’s nourishment, while the Dragon Pendant needs the Jade Soul to suppress its backlash. Every time they coexist, they pave the way for the seal on the world-destroying demon lord to be broken.

In the harem, Wu Meier’s “Soul-Tethering Art” alters memories, while Su Qingluo’s “Soul-Devouring Curse” conceals murderous intent. At court, Crown Prince Li Hengyi’s “Netherworld Nails” close in step by step, and An Luting’s “Gluttonous Remnant Soul” sets off the An Lushan Rebellion. In the cultivation world, Mo Chen’s plot involving a weapon spirit and Yue Wushang’s disguise as an elder push her even closer to despair.

At Mawei Slope, with a white silk noose around her neck, she weaves a “Rainbow Garment Bone Robe” to fake her death and escape, only to discover that Li Longyan’s longevity is being bought with her own lifespan. To break the curse, protect the Tang dynasty, and save her beloved, she ventures into the underground palace at Lixiu to find the Jade Soul’s true form, then enters Netherdark Valley to destroy the main altar of the Xuanyin Cult. At last, as the world-ending black mist shrouds Chang’an, a single pure tear awakens Fuxi’s seal. The so-called Longevity Calamity was never about seeking eternal life. It was always about finding the courage to face life and death together with you.
