Livestreaming a Rundown of China's Dynasties: The Emperors All Lose It

# Live Commentary on the Dynasties: Emperors Across the Ages Lose Their Cool

Zhang Sheng accidentally transmigrates to a parallel Blue Star and activates the “History Rating Live Stream System.” He gathers expert ratings and popular comments from the modern era about ancient history, then launches a live stream across time, broadcasting the verdicts of future generations straight into the imperial palaces of every dynasty!

A heavenly book suddenly appears in the Qin palace. Ying Zheng sees the glowing 9.7 rating: “The First Emperor won’t blame you for not knowing English. He’ll only blame himself for not conquering the world.” He looks to the heavens and sighs, finally having found a kindred spirit. In the Han palace, Emperor Wu hears Huo Qubing praised with a 9.9 rating: “If he’d lived thirty more years, Eurasia would all belong to China.” He urgently summons the finest doctors in the land to protect Huo Qubing’s health. In the Ming palace, Zhu Yuanzhang and Zhu Di see the 9.8 rating, “No marriage alliances, no tribute payments, the emperor guards the realm’s gates,” and applaud with delight, though they are puzzled by the words, “The sovereign dies for his country.” Even Nurhaci, whose power is on the rise, and Kangxi and Qianlong, rulers of the prosperous Qing, witness later generations’ commentary on their dynasties’ rise and fall. Some are stirred by ambition, while others fall into deep thought.

From the might of the Qin and Han to the elegance of the Tang and Song, from the spirit of the Ming to the rise of the Jurchen, Zhang Sheng uses a modern perspective to unpack each dynasty’s merits and failings, igniting collisions between past and present with lively online commentary. The emperors are moved to tears when future generations recognize them, or reflect and reach new understanding from the lessons of history. Through their conversations across time, they explore a thousand years of wisdom on governance, the people’s livelihood, and cultural heritage. As the live stream nears the eve of the Xinhai Revolution, the emperors of the feudal age will finally understand the timeless truth foretold by the tides of history: “He who wins the people’s hearts wins the realm.” This live stream spanning a thousand years is not only a review of history, but also a passionate feast of dialogue between past and present!
