The Bridge Between Yin and Yang

At two in the morning, during the hour of extreme yin, overworked internet company employee Feng Yu is passing a footbridge when he is swept into a dizzying cycle between yin and yang alongside an old beggar. On the other side of the bridge, takeout containers float down the River of Forgetfulness among the dead, while the ghostly bailiffs at the Bridge of Helplessness drag away souls who cut in line. He has stumbled upon the underworld’s rules for claiming souls. A red-dressed female ghost’s gas hose coils around his wrist, a death talisman is hidden in a baby’s sock, and his father’s life lamp suddenly goes out in the underworld... When the character for “yin” appears on his palm, Feng Yu realizes this accident was fated from the start. Liu Laogen, a retired underworld bailiff, tosses him a peach branch. “If you want to save your dad, you’ll have to help me collect a hundred souls.” From then on, he’s an ordinary man dodging female ghosts by day, and an underworld bailiff by night, witnessing the lingering obsessions of the dead: an old man in a burial robe waiting by an unbroken earthen basin, a student who jumped to his death counting thirteen steps, and a boss whose main soul has been taken away but who’s still signing contracts... Every case of soul-collecting conceals a folk taboo, and something even more terrifying is crawling out through the cracks in that revolving footbridge.
