GGAD: Eternal Sunrise over Godric's Hollow

When Gellert Grindelwald burst through the attic door, he thought he would find the key to overturning the world. Instead, he found Albus Dumbledore, a boy with eyes like mead who was so bad at brewing potions that he could set the kitchen on fire.

There was no falling-out, no bloodshed. Just two genius wizards spending a summer in Godric's Hollow, quietly changing "For the Greater Good" into "Every day spent with you."

He would sneak into the Forbidden Forest at night to catch fireflies for Albus, just to light up the face that feared the dark. Albus would clean up his blown-up laboratory, scolding him for being a "madman" as he dabbed healing salve onto his burned fingertips. From sharing their first loaf of bread on a barn roof to clasping hands inside an Egyptian pyramid; from arguing over research at the institute late into the night to warming each other's feet before the fireplace, their hair turned white together.

Half their magic was for exploring the stars, and half for braiding each other's hair. Their sweet words were hidden in "Your spellwork is terrible" and tucked inside "I'll drink this potion for you."

When Gellert slipped a ring set with a phoenix feather around Albus's finger, and Albus made his hawthorn wand shine gold and red, they understood: the greatest magic was never about ruling the world. It was about making the sunrise over Godric's Hollow shine for them, for a lifetime.

This is a story about "how two madmen saved all their tenderness for each other," from youthful first love to growing old side by side. It's sweet from beginning to end, with no heartbreak, just endless affection.
