The Strings Sound Like a Lament

On a music competition stage, award-winning producer Xia Zhouqing meets Wu Wenjie, a timid young man with a guitar in his hands. This boy, who always hides in a corner writing songs while waiting to go onstage, uses a rough but heartfelt original song to awaken the musical passion Xia Zhouqing had buried long ago. When Wu Wenjie is laughed at because of a technical failure and doubted for his niche style, Xia Zhouqing repeatedly breaks the rules to protect him: using the only available spot to keep him in the competition, confronting the powerful interests behind the scenes, and even staking his own reputation in the industry. From their first meeting as an established star and an unknown contestant to becoming teacher and friend, standing side by side, they save each other beneath the spotlights and amid the undercurrents. As Xia Zhouqing protects the young man, he rediscovers his once-pure faith in music. With Xia Zhouqing’s support, Wu Wenjie transforms from a self-doubting songwriter into a singer who can hold his own. By the time the stage lights go dark, their stories of talent, protection, and growth have already become part of each other’s music.
