After Becoming a Low-Ranking Official’s Daughter, I Became Famous in the Tang Dynasty

Lin Weiwei, a burned-out office worker and food blogger, wakes up as Shen Qingwu, the daughter of a minor official in Chang’an whose family has barely enough to get by!

Seeing her baby brother crying for food and her parents weighed down with worry, Shen Qingwu rolls up her sleeves. Starving to death is out of the question! She starts with egg-stuffed pancakes and sweet soy milk, then sets up a stall in the Western Market. Modern snacks blow the competition away, setting Chang’an’s taste buds alight in an instant. Before long, everyone knows her as “Chef Shen.”

But why does that handsome, stone-faced young gentleman who keeps showing up and paying in gold leaf seem more and more suspicious? One day, he appears at the little shop she’s just leased, dressed in a prince’s robes. “Shopkeeper Shen, I’ll reserve today’s new dish.”

Prince Li Han of Jing knows how to play the lazy good-for-nothing in public, but in private he’s her mysterious benefactor and sharp-tongued food critic. He complains that her spicy soup is too hot, yet cleans his bowl every time. He acts annoyed when she gets into trouble, yet quietly clears every obstacle whenever someone gives her a hard time. From “queue disputes” to “palace catering orders,” from a “spicy snack misunderstanding” to “moon cakes that amaze,” her modern ideas send the taste buds of the entire Tang dynasty into a frenzy, while slowly stirring the Prince of Jing’s long-still heart.

But women in business draw criticism, rumors about her origins stir up trouble, and royal marriage alliances are a gilded cage... When attacks from conservatives and secret schemes from the palace come her way, Shen Qingwu plants her hands on her hips and fires back. “Your Highness, I may sell my skills, but not my body... No, I mean, I sell delicious food, not my freedom! Want to shut down my shop? First ask whether my ‘Top Scholar Combo’ and my hundred thousand foodie fans agree!”

Watch as this modern food lover and daughter of a minor official uses nothing but a spoon and spatula to take the Tang dynasty’s food scene by storm, and, along the way, win over a proud prince and turn the lively streets of Chang’an into the sweetest feast of love.
