Blood Oath as Proof! The Legitimate Daughter Strikes Back

Deed: I, Zhang Kui, servant, was instructed by Concubine Liu of the Qiao household, Liu Meier, to sneak into Qixia Pavilion on the night of the seventh day of the third month of the Gengzi year and ruin the chastity of the legitimate daughter, Li Zhaohua. Upon completion, Concubine Liu will pay me five hundred taels of silver and help me flee. As a spoken promise is not proof, I hereby set this down as evidence. Signed, Zhang Kui (fingerprint).” She paused. Her gaze was like an icy awl, stabbing viciously at the ashen-faced Madam Liu as she read the final line of tiny writing, word by word: “Of the Qiao household’s holdings, Liu Meier receives sixty percent and Zhang Kui forty percent. We shall never betray each other.” Dead silence! Absolute silence!
