The Heartbeats We Missed That Year

The Heartbeats We Missed That Year!

Author: Yunding de Feng

The first half of Song Yan's life was like an old diary filled with regrets. One afternoon in their senior year, when the classes were combined, sunlight streamed through the window lattice and fell across Yu Bo's youthful profile. That one breathtaking glimpse and the beat of her heart were the only light in her youth. But after graduation, he enlisted in the army, while she went to work in a factory. Their parallel paths drifted farther and farther apart in the face of reality. Three years on the assembly line wore away her dreams, and through an introduction she married Li Lei, a supervisor at the factory. After she became pregnant, she was confined to the narrow world of a housewife.

Until the day she brought a thermos of food to the factory and caught Li Lei embracing someone else. As they argued, the old ceiling fan overhead suddenly came crashing down. Before darkness swallowed her, the bright eyes from that senior-year classroom flashed through her mind.

When she opened her eyes again, she had returned to the first day of their combined senior-year classes. The teacher was reading out the names at the front of the classroom. She turned her head and met Yu Bo's equally startled, faintly dazzled gaze. The wheels of fate began turning again. This time, she clenched her sweaty palm and looked toward the heartbeat she had once missed. Could a love buried by time rewrite the ending at this chance to be reborn?
