The Contract Is Broken, but Love Lives On

Shen Zhiwei is a sharp, capable trust lawyer. To protect the vast family fortune of her newlywed husband, Pei Yanshen, who has fallen into a vegetative state, she establishes a tightly structured “marital trust.” But when Pei Yanshen miraculously wakes, they are met not with tender reunions, but with a fierce inheritance battle and suspicions of cross-border money laundering buried within the family business. Leaving behind the cliché of a contract marriage turning into true love, the former spouses become “legal partners” and rebuild their trust by piecing together a cold chain of evidence. From traps involving “apparent agency” to invoking the “right to suspend performance,” they wield their expertise as a spear and legal procedure as a shield, outmaneuvering cunning opponents in and out of court. This is more than a battle to protect a vast fortune. It is also a quest for justice: pushing for revisions to the Law on Voluntary Guardianship and securing legal safeguards for vulnerable groups. Amid the cut and thrust of legal practice and the subtle battles of human nature, watch Shen Zhiwei use her intelligence and resilience to write her own triumphant story within the bounds of procedural justice.
