You Heal Me Better Than Spring

You are more healing than spring itself, a gentle touch of early spring in my lonely, pessimistic world.

After failing the civil service exam in Jiangcheng, city girl Cheng Chiyue is forced to accept a job with the culture and tourism bureau in a remote county. Faced with a language barrier, meager pay, and a workplace culture that pushes colleagues to set her up with men, she is filled with resentment, reluctance, loneliness, and confusion. She can only cling to the hope of passing another civil service exam and leaving.

A fall during a spring field trip brings her together with Pei Mu, a steady and dependable technician at the forestry bureau. A boy who knows first aid and how to cook, can play the flute, and has an idealistic heart, he becomes a ray of light in her darkness. From looking after her in daily life to working alongside her, Pei Mu helps Chiyue get to know this land through the simplest of gestures and feel the genuine care of its people.

Chiyue’s promotional work gives local tourism a major boost and earns her the recognition of her superiors. Her outlook changes, too, and she grows into an independent, confident ambassador for local culture and tourism. In the valley where they met a year earlier, Chiyue confesses her feelings to Pei Mu, only to realize that their encounter healed more than her broken leg: it also softened her sharp-edged resistance to the world and eased the exhaustion of constantly fighting herself.

As it turns out, the greatest success is finding a place in your warm embrace.
