A Letter in Spring

On the day of our wedding, my fiancee canceled the ceremony at the last minute, claiming she had to go on a business trip. I had spent three sleepless months preparing for it.

But that very night, I saw a post on her old flame's social media. My fiancee stood beside him before a huge tower of cakes, eyes half-closed and fingers entwined with his, as they made a wish together.

The caption read: "As expected of my soulmate. She made a big decision just to celebrate my birthday."

I was silent for two seconds, then liked the post and commented: "Wishing you happiness."

My fiancee exploded and called to scold me sternly.

"Are you a child? Why the sarcastic comments? It makes no difference whether we hold the wedding today or tomorrow, but Wenli only has one birthday a year."

"Besides, he just came back from abroad and has no one here. He's lonely. What's wrong with me celebrating his birthday?"

"Take back the like and comment, apologize to Wenli, and we'll let this go."

I smiled, feeling relieved, and nodded.

Seeing this, my fiancee beamed. She thought, as always, that I had realized my mistake. Her voice softened, and she promised to make it up to me with an even more lavish wedding three days later.

But she didn't know.

Our engagement had already been called off.

And I had decided to break up with her.
