Cloud Roots: The Quantum Village Revival Plan

Lin Ye, a PhD in agronomy, returns to Qingshan Village after ten years away, bringing a plan to build a “digital countryside.” But during a drone inspection, he discovers that this impoverished village, shrouded in mist, has long been enveloped by layers of darkness. Behind the tea plantations controlled by powerful clans lies a rare-earth smuggling network; international capital is coveting the underground mineral deposits under the guise of “cultural tourism investment”; and the “thirty-year infant disappearance case” recorded in the village history is mysteriously connected to his father’s research project from years ago.

As a technology specialist assigned to the village, Lin Ye tries to rebuild its administrative system with blockchain, only to face a mysterious hacker attack. The original ledger inexplicably bursts into flames in the metaverse. While pushing for an application to have traditional bamboo weaving recognized as intangible cultural heritage, he finds that the “Phoenix Weeping Blood” pattern woven by inheritor Granny Wu unexpectedly leads to a witness from the 1993 mountain fire. The smart agriculture park should have brought hope, but contamination from genetically modified seeds causes fluorescent rice to grow on thousand-year-old terraced fields. Even worse, Fang Yuqing, his childhood sweetheart and the village accountant, is suddenly caught up in an international human trafficking database, while Lin Ye’s own doctoral thesis is exposed as plagiarized from his father’s unfinished AI research in Qingshan Village twenty years earlier.

When a foreign company shows up with a “colonial-era land deed” from 1943 and demands control of the ancient tea gardens, when teenagers develop cyberpsychosis en masse from becoming obsessed with mining in the metaverse, and when an algorithm error causes torrential rains to trigger a flash flood, Lin Ye’s investigation reveals that the AI prototype his father left behind is still running. Even more astonishingly, Granny Wu’s blood contains a key code for a Cold War-era weather weapon.
