The Han Spirit Returns to Shu: Liu Chengxin's Chronicle of Revival

In the netherworld, Emperor Gaozu of Han, Liu Bang, wept blood as he knelt before Han Xin, the Immortal of War. He offered a thousand years of accumulated virtue in exchange for one thing: saving the Great Han, which stood on the brink of destruction. At a fateful moment, Han Xin’s soul transmigrated to the dying age of the Three Kingdoms and entered the body of Liu Shan, the feeble and inept Later Lord of Shu Han. He became Liu Chengxin. Deng Ai’s surprise troops were descending from the heavens, and Chengdu was in mortal danger. Armed with memories of the Chu-Han Contention, could he rewrite the humiliating ending of “finding Shu so pleasant he forgot his home”?

Reborn as Liu Chengxin, he cast off his former foolishness. He countered Deng Ai’s surprise attack with a stealthy march through Yinping, then routed Wei’s army by setting fire to Motian Ridge. He exploited Zhong Hui’s ambitions to sow discord within Wei, staging a modern version of “Ambush from Ten Sides” at Jiange. Knowing that “one must first secure the home front before repelling the enemy,” he purged corrupt officials like Huang Hao, introduced new salt and iron policies to replenish the treasury, improved Zhuge’s repeating crossbow to strengthen the army, and incorporated The Art of War into Shu’s military system.

With Cao Wei and Eastern Wu eyeing Shu Han hungrily, Liu Chengxin chose an unconventional path. He disguised a troop movement as a merchant caravan and secretly crossed the river at Jiangling, recreating the stratagem of crossing the river in white robes to seize Jingzhou. He struck a “Pillowside Alliance” with Zhuge Ke, breaking apart the Wu-Wei coalition. During his northern campaigns, he laid an ambush on the old battlefield of Guandu, avenged the Marquis of Wu’s regret at Wuzhang Plains, and exploited the Sima clan’s infighting to strike straight at Xuchang, making the vow “Han and its traitors cannot coexist” resound across the land.

From fighting for survival against impossible odds to conquering all under heaven, from Shu Han’s desperate crisis to once again performing the Fengshan Sacrifice on Mount Tai, Liu Chengxin used the wisdom of two lifetimes spanning a thousand years to lead Shu Han, on the verge of extinction, to the pinnacle of unification. When the age of prosperity finally arrived, he released himself from the bonds of his former life before Weiyang Palace, choosing to relinquish all imperial aura and bring this time-spanning tale of restoration to its end. The wheels of history turned amid the collision of the “Immortal of War” and the “Later Lord”
