In a sunny seaside town, volleyball carries the passion and dreams of countless young people. Zhou Yu is one such boy, full of enthusiasm for the sport. His team at Seaside Middle School was once a shining star on the court, but has now fallen into a slump. With the new season approaching, one problem after another crops up: the starting setter is injured, and the team’s morale is low.
Unable to accept the state of the empty volleyball gym, Zhou Yu stays behind to practice alone until he collapses from exhaustion. By chance, Ziran, the former team captain and now a PE teacher, is moved by his dedication and decides to help the team return to its former glory. Under Ziran’s guidance, Zhou Yu and his teammates begin grueling training. Though Zhou Yu has only average talent, his determination helps him improve rapidly.
But the road to growth is full of setbacks. During a crucial warm-up match, Zhou Yu makes mistake after mistake because he is overtired, costing the team the game. His teammates criticize him, and some even demand that he be removed from the starting lineup, plunging him into self-doubt. Just as Zhou Yu is about to give up, Ziran encourages him with stories from his own experience, helping him regain his confidence. From then on, Zhou Yu trains even harder and makes an effort to communicate with his teammates. The atmosphere on the team gradually improves, and they work together with increasing coordination.
In the league, Seaside Middle School makes it all the way to the finals, where they face Experimental Middle School, a formidable team with advantages in height and tactics. They fall behind almost as soon as the match begins. But Zhou Yu and his teammates support one another, making desperate saves and counterattacking. With the deciding set hanging in the balance, Zhou Yu steps up and scores with a spike, then leads his teammates in a successful defensive play. They ultimately win the championship by a narrow margin, fulfilling their volleyball dreams and restoring Seaside Middle School’s team to its former glory.
