Twelve Widows March to War

The tale of twelve widows going to war has been passed down among the people for hundreds of years and remains widely loved.

This traditional long-form storytelling classic is set during the reign of Emperor Renzong of the Northern Song. The Western Xia army sets out to seize the Central Plains, and twelve outstanding women from three generations of the Yang family, led by She Taijun and Mu Guiying, go to war to defend their country. They defeat and subdue enemy generals known as the “Six Heroes,” the “Seven Champions,” and the “Eight Great Hammermen,” foil plots such as the “Eight Plots to Wipe Out the Yang Family” and the “Beauty Trap,” and return victorious.

The story is full of twists and turns, with highs and lows, and is vivid and richly detailed. Its accessible language and wealth of content make it a gripping read.
