Lin Daiyu Is Reborn: Rejecting Baoyu and Slapping the Retired Emperor in the Face

She was once Lin Daiyu, the gifted beauty of the Grand View Garden. With her dying breath, she cried, “Baoyu, how could you be so heartless?” and “In my next life, I’ll make love obey me.” Then she transmigrated into Yudailin, a concubine-born daughter in the Xihe Dynasty. She was sitting in a bright red bridal sedan, on her way to marry the most powerful ruler in the dynasty, the Retired Emperor of Xihe. But she immediately broke off the wedding, refusing to sacrifice love in submission to feudal doctrine. Her reward was an imperial edict sentencing her entire family to death. The Retired Emperor of Xihe was a mysterious man who rarely showed himself. Yudailin had no idea that he had Baoyu’s face. Five years earlier, while the Retired Emperor was unconscious, a consort had committed a despicable act and used the child she conceived to secure her place in his household. But Yudailin remembered that she, too, had taken liberties with a man that night... When she was young, Yudailin often sneaked into school to learn, only to be humiliated by the sons of powerful families. Now, with Lin Daiyu’s soul and talent, how will Yudailin slap those mediocre fools in the face? To put an end to the contempt attached to being born a concubine’s child, she establishes an academy for the cultivation of concubine-born sons and daughters when her talent has made her famous throughout the realm. The sole condition for admission is that applicants must be born to a concubine, leaving those self-important legitimate sons and daughters far behind.
