The Romantic Tale of Diaochan

During Emperor Ling's reign, Dong Zhuo seized control of the court, deposed the emperor, and installed the Prince of Chenliu as Emperor Xian. From then on, Dong Zhuo wielded absolute power, and no one at court dared oppose him. Dong Zhuo took Lü Bu as his adopted son, and Lü Bu became his right-hand man. The two of them worked together in wickedness, burning, killing, and looting wherever they went. The court officials all kept quiet to protect themselves.

When Situ Wang Yun saw this, he was furious. He returned home and wept bitterly, yet could think of nothing to do. Wang Yun had adopted a daughter named Diao Chan. She was now sixteen, with breathtaking beauty and flawless skin, like a celestial being from heaven, unmatched by anyone in the world.

Wang Yun told Diao Chan how Dong Zhuo and Lü Bu had seized control of the court. Seeing her adoptive father so grief-stricken and helpless, she resolved to ease his troubles at any cost. So the father and daughter devised a beauty trap, letting Lü Bu and Dong Zhuo meet Diao Chan one after the other. Both men were bewitched by her beauty and wanted to claim her for themselves. Diao Chan married Dong Zhuo, while secretly seeing Lü Bu and sowing discord between father and son. In the end, Lü Bu killed Dong Zhuo, then Dong Zhuo's men killed Lü Bu and Wang Yun. Diao Chan, meanwhile, fled to Fushou Nunnery and became a nun.
