Synopsis

"The Stranger" is a novel by Nobel Prize winner Albert Camus. It is one of the representative works of this French existentialist writer and one of the most popular literary works in the world in the 20th century. "The Outsider" tells the story from a first-person perspective of an ordinary young employee who lives numbly in aimless inertia all day long. One day he goes to the beach for vacation, gets involved in a conflict, commits a murder, and is ultimately sentenced to death by the court in the name of the "French people" because "he did not shed a tear at his mother's funeral." It expounds an important proposition of existentialism: the absurdity and strangeness of human society in modern life lead to individual despair and emptiness. And by calmly describing the entire process of a little person being "demonized" by the judicial authorities, it profoundly satirizes the hypocrisy and foolhardy nature of modern law. This edition of "The Outsider" is the 2016 revised edition of the classic full translation by French translator Mr. Liu Mingjiu. He is an outsider when it comes to things, people, and feelings. He can see and hear things, people, and feelings dullly through thick water, but he doesn't have much experience. Only when he encounters that part of himself that really involves him does he seem like a living person.

This book is very interesting! The protagonist Meursault left a deep impression on me, and many of his ideas and actions surprised me. His words "I can do anything" really fit his attitude towards life. The description of him in court in the book is also wonderful, which made me feel the absurdity of the law. Overall, this is a book worth reading and will make you think more about life and society.

It is difficult to accurately express the experience during the reading process, but I can clearly understand and even empathize with the protagonist. It is like watching myself and myself talking to myself. I feel absurd, angry, painful, depressed, and regretful about the unfair and unjust trial. After Meursault gave me relief, it seemed that I was also relieved and my whole person recovered.
