Synopsis

In my opinion, the worldbuilding in traditional cultivation novels has already reached near perfection. Just look at the familiar stages of cultivation: Qi Refining, Foundation Establishment, Golden Core, Nascent Soul, and so on. Readers know them well. The same goes for cultivation techniques and spiritual root aptitudes, which are already fairly well developed. Even the different ways to start a story are well established, such as transmigration, a golden finger, or being reborn... Yet some authors, in an attempt to innovate, take a perfectly good cultivation setting and twist it beyond recognition, inventing new terms for cultivation stages and cultivation aptitudes alike. They think that’s what innovation means, but it’s like trying to paint a tiger and ending up with a dog. Changing the cultivation stages beyond recognition is one thing, but for the sake of so-called excitement, they have the protagonist kill an opponent two major stages above him. Even more ridiculous, when the protagonist has tried everything and still can’t win, a foreign-race big shot whose lair the protagonist destroyed earlier somehow shows up in human territory to save him, even suffering serious injuries in the process. Sigh. I’ve read so many of these warped novels that I’ve advanced from being a reader to being an author. So I thought that if I wrote a traditional cultivation novel, I’d innovate only in the plot. There are so many things we can do nothing about; some leave only memories and a few regrets, along with a little hope and, more often, wishful thinking. That is the theme of this book.
