Hope Galaxy: A Civilization a Trillion Light-Years Away

The universe is mysterious, and it demands our awe. Perhaps one day it will grow colder, emptier, and more barren of life. Perhaps it will contract once more, breaking down galaxies, stars, atoms, and atomic nuclei, returning to the silence before the Big Bang.

A glance at the brilliant starry sky leaves a powerful impression: the universe seems eternal and unchanging.

Clouds drift past the moon.

The night sky circles around the North Star.

The moon waxes and wanes.

Planets move against the backdrop of stars being born.

Yet these are merely local phenomena caused by the motion of a solar system, like a grain of sand within the Milky Way.
