Two-Faced Man on a Deserted Island: Starting as an Interpreter for the Special Higher Police

Shanghai, 1938, an isolated island under Japanese occupation. Chen Zheng, a modern-day MSS field operative, dies on an overseas mission. When he opens his eyes, he's become Zhao Delu, a groveling traitor who works as a translator for a Japanese trading company.

This Zhao Delu bows lower than anyone else before the Japanese, takes more than anyone else when it comes to bribes, and is unrivaled in Hongkou for his greed, lechery, and talent for flattery.

But no one knows that beneath this skin is a veteran counterintelligence operative fluent in Japanese, English, German, and Russian.

From the isolated island to the 76th Division, from Wang Jingwei's defection to Pearl Harbor, every step is a brush with death.

He lives as the most hated traitor in Hongkou, and as a hero whose name no one knows.

On the day of victory, he collects a reward from an unknown benefactor, then turns south and settles into a quiet life in Hong Kong.

The final line in the ledger reads: Delu, Delu, Delu. Those who gain good fortune do not always gain happiness.
