I Can’t See Her Through the Mist

At thirty-six, Shen Yan lives life on her own terms, lively and carefree. At work, she is efficient and capable; back at the old family home, she loves trading barbs with Su Qingci. She seems utterly carefree. Su Qingci is twenty-one years older, with short hair and a quiet, cool demeanor. She looks after Shen Yan in every way, and friends and relatives near and far all say that Su Qingci dotes on this younger woman most of all. Only Shen Yan knows that her joking, smiling manner is all an act. She has been hiding a secret crush for ten years, too afraid to confess it. Su Qingci remembers that Shen Yan has a weak stomach and makes an exception for her in everything. There is a tenderness in her eyes that no one else can read, yet she always avoids any closeness that might cross the line, without ever betraying what she feels. Sharing a home and each other’s company day after day, the two remain separated by a thick fog that will not lift. Shen Yan desperately seizes on every small sign of special affection, sinking again and again between testing the waters and holding herself back. Beneath their lively daily routine lies a deep love doomed from the start. After all their twists and turns, she still cannot see the woman she loves through the fog.
