Siheyuan: With a Sumeru Space, I Get Jia Zhangshi Arrested

The day Jia Zhangshi broke her arm, everyone in the compound thought it was an accident. That was until Zhou Changli found the bottle of croton oil beneath her doorstep. Her attempt to steal a chicken had backfired, and she'd landed herself in the police station. Yi Zhonghai tried to use his authority as the Number One Grandpa to smooth things over. Old Deaf Granny came by with her cane to plead for leniency, and Silly Zhu rolled up his sleeves, ready to use force. Zhou Changli shut them all down with one line: "The door to my home isn't a public toilet."

The day Jia Zhangshi was led away in handcuffs, Qin Huairu knelt in the courtyard and cried until she was dehydrated. Banggeng dragged his broken leg after the police car all the way to the alley entrance, while Silly Zhu climbed over a wall in the middle of the night to beg the neighborhood police officer for help. But the police station had already completed the paperwork. Attempted theft and obstructing official duties meant a month in detention, no question. This Spring Festival, the Jia family's New Year's Eve dinner was bound to have one fewer place setting.

Jia Dongxu's portrait still hung on the wall, while Jia Zhangshi's curses rang out from the detention center and carried back to the courtyard. Everyone was muttering about how Zhou Changli had even dared to send an old woman to jail. He locked his door and hung freshly cured meat all along the eaves. The year-end holiday was approaching, and a cleaver rested on the chopping board. Anyone who reached for his things again would find that next time, detention would be the least of their worries.
