Naruto: The One-Eyed Senju, Meeting Naruto and Neji at School

After transmigrating into the orphaned remnant of the Senju clan, Quan Yu had only one eye left from the start. His left eye had been gouged out when he was a baby, and his bloodline was so weak he couldn't even refine chakra. When he was six, the Third Hokage came to his home in person to claim him. His grandfather, the clan head, clenched his fists and signed away his freedom. "Pick whichever seedlings you want." The night before school started, Quan Yu sneaked into Ichiraku Ramen and ran into Uzumaki Naruto, who was hungrily peering through a crack in the door. When Quan Yu offered to pay for his meal, Naruto froze. "Nobody's ever treated me to food before." Quan Yu clapped him on the shoulder. "From now on, I've got your back." On the first day of school, the class assignments went up. His desk mate was Hyuga Neji, Haruno Sakura sat behind him, and Uchiha Sasuke was surrounded by girls in the distance. Neji glanced at Quan Yu's single eye. "Are you from the Branch Family too?" Quan Yu grinned. "I'm a Senju. Worse off than the Branch Family. I'm the only one left in my whole clan." Neji fell silent for a moment, then pushed his lunch over to him. "Go ahead and eat. I'm full." Looking at the neatly arranged rice balls, Quan Yu thought of the bloodstains on the banknotes his grandfather had stuffed into his hands. He was beginning to understand: his enrollment had bought the lives of his entire clan.
