Dream of the Red Chamber: Armed with the Great Yellow Court, I Save Xue Pan from Certain Doom

After transmigrating into the world of Dream of the Red Chamber, Xue Hong was brought back from the nine border garrisons by Master Xue and adopted as his son. At sixteen, he reached the Zhixuan realm of the Great Yellow Court, single-handedly stabilizing the Xue family. Xue Pan was dragged into a dead end by a murder case involving a wicked servant. Jia Yucun, the prefect of Jinling, and the Wang family conspired to close the case by claiming a "vengeful ghost had demanded a life." Xue Hong saw through the trap: they would erase Xue Pan from the household register, extinguish the Xue family line, and let the Wang family swallow their immense wealth. He promptly held Xue Pan to account. "Hand the murderous servant over and confess within three days. Pay compensation. Keep twenty-seven thousand of the thirty thousand taels for yourself." Xue Pan broke down in tears. "Brother, Mother drove you out, yet you still protect us..." Xue Hong waved a hand. "Our father entrusted you to me on his deathbed. He was the one who saved your life." While Xue Baochai lay awake all night clutching his old clothes, Xue Hong crouched by a field ridge, working out the numbers with the Sixth Prince, Zhu Cen. Sweet potatoes yielded 5,600 catties per mu, enough to save half the Ming Empire. With merit like that behind him, he could refuse the imperial examinations and stay out of government, yet walk through the capital as he pleased, with no one daring to touch him. Crouching in the furrows and munching on a sweet potato with his mouth blackened by char, Xue Pan asked, "Brother, we won't have to fear the Wang family anymore?" Xue Hong looked up. "Fear them? They should be the ones afraid of us."
