The Lone Immortal of the Evil Path

Every one of the seventy-three people in Liuxi Village was dead by morning.

Chen Yuan was the only survivor. When he crawled out of the pile of corpses, a Gu had appeared in his palm, like a chunk of charred black coal, scales covering its surface and black slime seeping from its cracks. It fed on resentment, and if it ate too much, it would run wild. The only way to feed it was with his own rotting flesh.

After devouring the resentment of the entire village, the Gu pried a memory from the dead: a black-robed figure, a blood lantern, seven days from now, and Qingyun Sect holding a blood sacrifice to activate an array.

He found half a jade token engraved with the blood lantern insignia. It grew hot when pointed east, and the Gu pulsed at exactly the same frequency.

An elder of Qingyun Sect tried to take the Gu from him. He refused. He knocked the man aside and headed east.

Filthy things should simply be burned.

He did not know what awaited him ahead, but he knew this: in seven days, Qingyun Sect would shed blood. He could be the one sacrificed, or the one holding the knife.
