NBA: Inheriting Traditional Chinese Medicine, Curing the Curse of the Beastly Doctors

In 2007, Jiang Ming unexpectedly inherited the secrets of ancient Chinese medicine and became the Houston Rockets' team doctor. People laughed that the Portland Trail Blazers' team doctor was more like a veterinarian. He refused to believe it.

Yi Jianlian suffered a serious shoulder injury and was ruled out for the season. With a single massage and bone-setting treatment from Jiang Ming, Yi returned to the court on the spot and threw down a dunk over a defender that stunned the crowd. Greg Oden's knee was in trouble? Herbal medicine and acupuncture, and the healthy Big Oden took on Kevin Durant head-on. Derrick Rose tore a ligament? A last-minute recovery before the playoffs, and the peak Rose went toe-to-toe with LeBron James. The Yellow Mamba, Blake Griffin, Cristiano Ronaldo, Usain Bolt: countless superstars sentenced to a career-ending fate by the so-called "veterinarian's curse" were given new life under his care.

Even more outrageous, when treating female athletes he always insisted on "taking their pulse by hand first," while for male athletes he only used the four methods of diagnosis: observation, listening and smelling, inquiry, and palpation. "Traditional Chinese medicine emphasizes balancing yin and yang. Men and women are different; those are the rules," Jiang Ming said with a perfectly straight face.

While experts in sports medicine around the world shook their heads, he used a thousand-year-old tradition of Chinese medicine to pull one prodigy after another back from the abyss of injury. Who says the world of sports always destroys prodigies? In the hands of this "Sage Physician," that simply doesn't happen!
