Crimson Beauty, Chilling Summer Bones

Wang Yiran bears the Red-Bloom Calamity. Once he falls in love, his heart aches and his health declines; if his love runs deep, he will die. But after meeting the orphan Qi Xia, he falls for her anyway, and would rather die than drink the Forgetting Water.

Qi Xia knows nothing of the calamity. She only notices that the more she cares, the sicker Wang Yiran becomes. To save him, she forces herself to act cold and hurt him, pushing away the one person who has ever made her heart flutter. She believes that if she can make him stop loving her, he will live.

Lin Luyao is hopelessly in love with Wang Yiran and sacrifices her own lifespan to keep him alive. Lin Yuchen loves Qi Xia and is willing to turn against his own sister for her. Su Mujin is devoted to her; he runs away from his wedding to accompany her, only for his family to drag him back by force. The womanizer Wang Youchen sees through every secret and develops an obsessive fixation on Qi Xia.

An old incident comes to light: Qi Xia is the illegitimate daughter abandoned years ago by Master Lin. The truth is exposed before everyone, and fate deals them all a devastating blow.

Wang Yiran's allotted lifespan runs out, and he dies. Lin Luyao follows him when her own time is up. Those left behind each have their own sorrows, and love and hatred alike come to nothing.

Many years later, Qi Xia makes her own way and becomes a wealthy merchant, with riches and freedom. She saves a young man named Liu Yuquan and falls in love again, but once more, fate brings no happy ending.

She stands at the pinnacle of the world, radiant and prosperous, yet no one is by her side to grow old with her. A life of passion, a life of loneliness: every flutter of her heart ends in regret.
