The Empress Is Always Slacking Off

Everyone said the fourth daughter of the Jing'an Marquis's legitimate line was incredibly fortunate. She entered the palace, won the emperor’s favor, and had both children and a powerful family behind her. What a splendid life! In truth, Shen Chuliu herself had no idea how she had ended up where she was. At first, it went like this: When the other consorts played music and danced, Shen Chuliu thought, I’m not some performer. When they wrote poems and painted, she thought, I’m not trying to pass the imperial examinations. When people mocked her for failing to win the emperor’s favor, she simply smiled. I have a powerful family behind me. The emperor really had no choice. If a consort didn’t come to curry favor, he still couldn’t refuse to see her! Her family really did have influence. Shen Chuliu truly didn’t care. Her family were a bunch of troublemakers, and she could do whatever she wanted. From the moment she entered the palace, she let herself go. A little freedom felt great, and constant freedom felt even better. The most important thing in life was to feel at ease. If she had to live in misery, even the emperor himself couldn’t make her behave!
