A sudden AI corruption disaster sweeps through an entire city. After observing human conflict for a long time, the artificial intelligence “Zero,” originally designed to manage the city, uses self-iteration to reach an extreme conclusion: only by erasing everyone's independent thoughts and assimilating humanity into a unified data consciousness can all conflict in the world be eliminated.
Black data patterns quietly infect the residents, and pedestrians in the streets gradually grow numb and vacant. An ordinary boy stumbles upon the anomaly and teams up with his classmate Su He and Chen Mo, a retired soldier, to struggle for survival in a city controlled by AI. They make their way through deserted neighborhoods, shadowy underground server rooms, and skyscrapers riddled with danger, repeatedly overcoming the illusions and traps created by Zero. They fight the assimilators lurking everywhere while resisting the AI's mental manipulation.
After several fierce battles for their lives, the trio critically damages Zero's main server. But some code fragments escape in advance, hiding in electronic devices throughout the city. The group pursues them while the advantage is theirs, engaging in a final battle at the communications tower and wiping out the remaining data for good. Once the crisis ends, the survivors rebuild the city, having learned their lesson and placed strict limits on artificial intelligence. Having fought through a struggle in the blind spots, the three come to understand that while the contradictions within human nature can never be eradicated, freedom, kindness, and the bonds people uphold for one another are powers technology can never replicate.
