A Simple Life of Longing

Yi Yi, 28, is a top-tier star and singer who retires from the industry without a single scandal.

No one knows he’s a transmigrator, or that in his previous life he was a music legend who simply worked himself to death onstage.

This time around, he’s learned his lesson.

After leaving the military at twenty, he debuted as a singer. Over eight years, he “recreated” all the classics from his previous life, saving enough money for retirement and accumulating a host of health problems. A herniated disc, vocal nodules, mild depression: his doctor told him that if he kept pushing himself like this, he wouldn’t live to see fifty.

Yi Yi didn’t hesitate. He quit.

He went home to the little villa by Shangguan Lake, where he could fish, cook, and bask in the sun, living like an immortal.

Then, on his third day out of the industry, the production team of Yearning for Life showed up at his door. More absurdly, his mother had rented out the villa three months earlier.

The director’s eyes lit up. “Would you be willing to be our amateur landlord?”

Yi Yi: “...If I say no, will you leave?”

Teacher He laughed himself silly nearby.

From then on, the “ordinary” life of a retired top-tier star became a slow-paced variety show watched by the whole country.

And the “farewell gifts” he prepared for every guest, all classic scripts and songs that had once taken the market by storm in his previous life, made the director fall to his knees.

What do you mean ordinary? He’s a walking money-printing machine.
