Under a microscope, the Buddha’s relic, no bigger than a bean, looked like a pale red planet. Towering mountains and dry ancient riverbeds covered its desolate, vast surface, a magnificent sight. The researchers examined this microscopic world closely, filled with wonder. Before long, they made a startling discovery. An ancient bronze vessel of bizarre design was anchored in the dry ocean of this pale red planet. It was covered in rust, and its masts and sails were clearly visible. No one knew how many ages it had been stranded there. At higher magnification, they saw bones littering the ship: human skeletons in armor, the remains of phoenixes and giant serpents, and vast stretches of tombstones across the deck. It was only 460 nanometers long, yet so magnificent and mysterious.
