Even Deep Love Cannot Last Until We Grow Old Together

At a party, Fu Shenghe's good friend asked him in Spanish:

"Your vice president is pregnant with your child. Your wife still doesn't know?"

He shook his head. "Huanhuan can't accept betrayal. If she finds out, she'll disappear from my world. I can't afford that. I've kept it well hidden. Once the baby is born, I'll bring it to her to raise, then send the mother away. That'll be the end of it."

After speaking, Fu Shenghe ingratiatingly put some grilled meat beside me, oblivious to my tightly bitten lower lip.

He didn't know I had studied Spanish.

And I'd long known he'd been accompanying the vice president to her prenatal checkups behind my back.

So I had kept something from him, too.

Without telling him, I switched identities with a friend who had cancer. All I had to do was wait half a month. The patient was nearing the end, and I would disappear from his world forever.

From then on, no matter where he searched, he would never find me again.
