Xu Jing's maternal grandmother was a heinous murderer. In 1989, she was publicly tried and executed by firing squad in the factory district. Of her three children, one went mad and one died. The remaining child, Xu Jing's mother, lived her whole life feeling inferior and hopeless.

Living in the shadow of being a murderer's descendant, Xu Jing complained about her life countless times. Then one day, she found herself in the body of her grandmother in the 1980s, on the eve of the murder.
