[This book won the Outstanding Work Award in Qimao's Second Realistic Fiction Writing Contest and has been published in print under the same title]
A novel about rural revitalization and grassroots governance.
It tells the story of Dou Huaiye, an online novelist who returns to her hometown after failing the graduate school entrance exam. By chance, she discovers that Ye Wenqing, the senior she has long had a crush on, is an inheritor of an intangible cultural heritage. He gives up a lucrative job and returns home to start a traditional hemp paper workshop, dedicated to promoting the ancient art of papermaking. Deeply moved, she resolves to help Ye Wenqing spread the word.
From their first unsuccessful application to have the craft recognized as intangible cultural heritage to their eventual interview on CCTV, the way the pair handle each challenge powerfully reflects the Chinese people's hardworking spirit and their determination to persevere and never give up.
I originally thought that a novel with this theme would be a bit boring, but I didn't expect it to be very exciting. The settings of several characters in the protagonist group are very brilliant, especially the question raised in the article: "Does behavior determine poverty, or does poverty restrict behavior?" This is also very worthy of everyone's thinking. Several clues in the story are carried out at the same time, but it does not seem messy. On the contrary, it is more colorful and impressive. There is also the supporting character Xu Li who has awakened her self-awareness. Her story is so real and so regrettable. The main thing I want to mention here is the author's writing style. It has no sense of cumbersomeness and is fresh and refreshing. Coupled with the sometimes funny words, it makes people feel extremely surprised. Especially the interaction between the male and female protagonists is full of youthful feeling. Ang, it is indeed a novel with realistic themes. It always feels like you are living next to you. Madam, it is real!!! Finally, I hope that the author will continue to work hard and let everyone see more excellent works~
It is rare to see a work that introduces intangible cultural heritage in such detail. The author cleverly combines the issue of intangible cultural heritage with rural revitalization, opening up a different way of thinking for us. Taking the ancient craftsmanship of jute paper as an entry point, it vividly describes the national culture with Eastern Sichuan characteristics. I highly praise the author and hope to create more such masterpieces!!!
I kind of want to know the follow-up plot development...
The writing, plot, pacing, and characterization are all top-notch, but the plot really sucks. If you are not someone who has strict requirements for plot innovation, it is totally worth watching.
It's not good. I've only read the first few chapters. There are too many people here. I haven't even figured out who that person is, but another one appears.
It's so good to watch ~ the plot is so exciting
