Dream of the Red Chamber: It's All Mine!

Zhao Ju wakes up to find that his soul has fallen into the world of Dream of the Red Chamber, where he has become Aunt Zhao’s nephew, a character who never appeared in the original. At first, he is full of disdain. The Twelve Beauties of Jinling, as described by Cao Xueqin, are probably just exaggerated by literary types. After all, he’s seen countless beauties amid the neon lights of the modern world. How could women from ancient times possibly impress him? Then, one day, he accidentally runs into Qin Keqing. Her graceful, alluring figure and the ethereal aura in her eyes make even this modern man, who prides himself on having seen it all, fall for her shamefully. After going to great lengths to win her away, he settles into a life of blissful sweetness with her. But then an emissary from the Land of Illusion suddenly comes knocking. “By order of Fairy Jing Huan, I have come to take Qin Keqing back, set things right, and restore the world to its destined course.” Zhao Ju laughs furiously. Do they really think he’s someone they can push around? How could he let his wife meet the same tragic end as she did in the original? To keep his wives safe, he decisively raises the banner of rebellion. He maneuvers among the Twelve Beauties of Jinling, drawing on the power of their destinies to wage one thrilling battle of wits after another against the Land of Illusion. Yet as the days go by, Zhao Ju finds himself increasingly puzzled. Why is the crimson python robe he wears turning more and more yellow?
