The Thief’s Way

I’ve had many women in my life. They all let their hair down and shared intimate moments with me, and they helped me in different ways at different stages of my life. But there are only three I remember most. In 1985, when I was in my final year of high school, I offended an important man over a rat. I had no choice but to give up my studies and leave home. But I don’t regret it. A dragon stranded in shallow water is trapped; locked away in a stone forest, it will die. Because of a rat, an old book, and a desperate predicament, I became a thief. But throughout my life, I have always lived by one principle: thieves have their code, and even thieves follow a moral way. Many years later, I had Ministry of State Security and Public Opinion Bureau ID cards pinned to my chest, and the Night Hawk jade pendant that marked me as the King of Thieves in my pocket. Only then did I realize that the naive boy who had been robbed soon after arriving in Guancheng had truly grown up... My name is Lin Yunjiu, the last King of Thieves in modern times.
